Editorial photography is a combination of the right time and the right place. But sometimes the right place could look better. The background was re-created using reference from Google street-view and with the help of a little CGI.
Extending an image isn’t always straightforward. In this case, the entire right side was crafted using only fragments from the original and a heavy dose of old-school digital painting techniques—long before AI tools entered the scene.
